I am basically using a default theme right now but I’d like you to know that I’m working on designing my first very own theme. I also have a few new ideas for blogging and microblogging and the convergence happening there.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
October 11th, 2007 · No Comments
I just downloaded the album. That makes it the first album that I ever paid to download. I’m not saying I’m a pirate, I’m just saying that I’d rather go buy the CD, put it on my vast array of devices and my home network and generally do what I please with the IP that I purchase instead of having DRM on it.
Radiohead has started something. I was hoping it was an ideological statement that let the RIAA-n-associates know that suing single mothers over a few pirated songs for a quarter million isn’t a very nice thing to do. More importantly, it’s changed everything.
Bands now understand that they are needing the labels even less and less. I will buy via Amazon and other non-DRM stores in the future, but I paid Thom and the guys a handsome amount of money for the digital download of their album.
I’m only listening to the second song right now but so far everything sounds great. One thing I love about Radiohead is that with each subsequent listen you are usually rewarded with something more–not less–and this is generally the case with all good music. Bob Dylan still is the man after all these years.

Entering the world of Oracle
October 10th, 2007 · No Comments
As I was mentioning yesterday, I took a left turn in my career recently. I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of corporate life, but there are a few advantages to it. In any career, it’s not always about rising to the top, and there are geniune advantages to breadth, especially in the technology world.
I am a big fan of all platforms, although I’m pretty warry of Windows lately. Their strenths are with IDE’s but at the cost of bloat. I’m interested in focusing at least the next few years in intering the complex world of Oracle, and I will use it to further suplment my knowledge of MySQL.
As someone with some database knowledge, I’m interested in things like what are the advantages of caching on the database, verses caching on the application side. If the caching on databases works hand in hand with techniqes used on the application, is this the best scenario?

Luck, sometimes I wonder if there is such a thing

Of 180’s
The last three weeks have been hell. I don’t want my blog to start off with Drama but I was wondering if anyone else out there has ever been through a multi-week/multi-angle spell of bad luck and at the very end you get a few things that happen and everything is okay again and looking good again? It almost seems like I’m bipolar but I really am affected by bad and good luck I think.
Kicking the Tires In here….
Trying to think about what types of things I’d like to talk about on my website, I’ve had my technology business focused blog for a few years and I really want to start pulling my opinion out of it a bit and really talk about things which I find interesting here so that I can focus more professional thinking there.
